The Sale Ave Years -1937 to 1949
The 1937 flood waters came within a few inches of the ceiling of Alice and Eddie's rented house on Dixie Hwy across 18th street from his parents. They rented a house 1606 Sale Ave in south Louisville at $25 per month from Andrew Schmitt who owned the Enterprise Coal Company on Berry Blvd. The Schmitt family lived next door to Eddie's parents. They lived at the Sale Ave address until 1949 when a new home was purchased at 1817 Farnsley Rd in Shively. The home cost $10,500 with a monthly mortgage cost of $55. At that time the home was the last one built on Farnsley which had been part of the old Oehrle Dairy property. Alice's sisters, Irma and Hilda Kemper lived with the Wachtels,
