Kemper ancestors back to the early 1800s
Anthony (Anton) Kemper (1804 -1875) and Marie Gesina (Apken) Kemper (1808 - 1869) arrived in New Orleans in 1856 on board the "Mississippi". Anton purchased land near Ferdinand from the Wabash Erie Canal group and the land is still in the family (2005). Anton was born in 1804 and was a native of Hanover, Germany the birthplace of his wife. (Anton and Maria are the great, great grandparents of the generation of Donald Wachtel b.1935). Their children, as far I could find, are Maria Helene (Knust) 1841-1886 and son John Bernard Kemper below.

Their 2 children were - William (1905-1977), married Eunice Hudson, (1910-1996). They lived in Melbourn Florida and are buried at St Andrews Cemetery, Louisville. 1 child, Carl (1940-2005). - Ida (1899-1992) of Shively, never married.
Maria Reutman Kemper died at 30, Sepr 1 1906. Her parents were Henry Reutman and Elizabeth (Wessel) Reutman of Ferdinand.
Ben married Josephine Paulin (1879-1952) of Siberia, Indiana on April 16, 1907. Their 6 children were ---

Two children, Elaine and Eddie.
- Clemens (Clem) Kemper (1881-1969) from Ferdinand, Indiana and Emma Willman (1883-1948) of Louisville were married November 18, 1904 in Louisville. They had four children. --- Ruth (1905-1977), never married - Edna (?-1982) married Eddie McEliott (?-1989) no children - Edmund (Bud) 1907 -1994) married to Dorothy (?), no children - Herbert, (1911-1974), never married. Clem was a bartender and then proprietor of a saloon at 641 W Market. The family lived there in 1920. Later moved to 2501 W. Oak Street. Clem's hobbies were art and woodworking.
- Alice Kemper (1894-1984) and John C. (Honus) Kippes (1894-1951) were married ???. They lived on Dixie Hwy in Shively, Ky. He was a foreman for the road dept. Two children --- Marie (1920-2003) married Emmett Hamilton, children were Jim, John Janell, Joni and Jarry. - and Laverne (1922- ?) married Stanley Seng (died at 29 in 1947) and ???. One child, Janet (Seng) King (1942-2010), 4 children, plus 1 died at premature birth.
- Catherine Kemper (1892-1980) and John (Jack) Friedman (1894 Iowa-1939) were married ??? in Shively, probably. Jack died in a construction accident at Fort Knox. Their only child was Carolyn (1925-2010), married Alfred (Fritz) Oehrle (1921-2011). Children were Linda, Judy, Donna and son Richard who died in infancy.

Children are Jim, 10 others - Cornell J. (1916-2003) of Ferdinand, married Doris Berry (1925-2008). Children are Vadonia, Jeanette, Linda, Elaine, Geralyn, Mary, Marvin - Mary Rita (1912-?) married Winoch Martin Schwinghammer in 1932. children ?

- Joseph (Joe) Kemper b.1874. (Cannot remember where I got this and if it is correct). Happy-Go-Lucky, divorced, rented room in Louisville, only son killed in WW1. When Ben came to Louisville he would stay with Joe.)

Clem Kemper owned a restaurant in the 1920s at 641 W Market St. in Louisville. (See yellow dot). There were bedrooms on floor above and Otto stayed there when he came to Louisville. He said that he spent time just looking out the windows and was amazed at all the traffic and street cars. Clem's sons, Herbert and Edmund were also bartenders at various locations. Edna worked at the lunchroom of Parkland Jr. High. Clem was also a master woodworker. His wife. Emma died of a cerebral hemorrhage in 1948 at their home, 2501 West Oak Street at the age of 64.
